ARLENE FREEMAN
ARLENE FREEMAN

Arlene (Granaas) Freeman was born September 6, 1927, at her home in rural Veblen, SD to Obert and Bertie (Sampson) Granaas. Her brother (Russell) was born on her birthday two years later. She was baptized at home and confirmed at Palestine Lutheran Church in rural Veblen. Arlene graduated from Veblen High School and was the last surviving member of the Class of 1945. With Arlene’s caring nature, she was often a live-in caregiver to many children of friends and relatives when there was a new baby added to the family.
Arlene married Loren Freeman on May 10, 1958, to which two children were born. Her faith was a big part of her life, and she was very active in the church community. Some of her activities with the church included being a Sunday school teacher, quilting and a Ladies Aide member. Arlene enjoyed being a farm wife, raising chickens and tending a large garden. She enjoyed canning, baking, and trying out new recipes.
Arlene loved to crochet. Among the many things she made included 150 NAME doilies she gave as gifts. She loved spending time visiting and making cookies with her three grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter Laureen (David) Graham of St. Louis, MO, three grandsons: Matthew, Joshua, and Jacob; son Phillip (Karen) Freeman of Geneseo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband Loren Freeman; parents Obert and Bertie Granaas and brother Russell Granaas.
