Barbara J. Cleberg was born December 7, 1944 in Columbus, Nebraska to parents Jerry and Anna Marie Stuchl. Barb attended grade school and high school in Redfield and graduated in 1962. She started as a secretary with the Rural Electric Association (REA) in Redfield and worked the next 45 years at REA, Marshall County Hospital and St. Teresa Catholic Church.

Barb grew up in Redfield with her 3 sisters Sandy, Patty, Dolly and one older brother, Jack. She had many pets growing up (cats, dogs, raccoon, horses) and it continued throughout her life. She never met a stray that went hungry if they stopped by her house. Barb and her siblings spent the summers at the family cabin on Cottonwood Lake.

Sometime during her high school years, she met a young man who came from a large family who was pretty persistent in asking her on a date and probably against her father’s better judgement she went and never looked back as she was with the love of her life, Patrick Cleberg.

Barb and Pat were married in September of 1963 in Redfield, SD. Pat was farming and working two other part time jobs when in 1966, a local businessman told him he should go to college. Barb always supported Pat and encouraged him to go and they would figure it out. When Pat graduated from Northern State in 1969, they took off to Camano Island, WA to work for Firestone and sell real estate. They moved back to South Dakota and the couple moved to Britton, SD where they spent the next 14 years and then to Beresford, SD where they lived until Pat’s passing in 2014. Barb then moved to Sioux Falls.

Barb and Pat have two sons, Terry and John. In addition, to supporting Pat, Barb was her boys’ #1 fan and faithfully attended all their events. Barb was close to her daughter inlaws, Bonnie and Liz. Barb adored and spoiled her grandkids; Avery, Aryn, Emmy and Sam. Barb and Pat loved to golf, play cards and go for Sunday drives. Later in life they got to travel around world and go places they never would have imagined, but the things they enjoyed the most was spending time with their brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren and friends.

Surviving Barb are two sons, Terry (Bonnie) Cleberg, Sioux Falls and John (Elizabeth) Cleberg, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Avery (Emilie) Maplewood, MN, Aryn, Emerson and Sam Cleberg, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Dolly Michels, Chamberlain, Patty (Willie) Gruenwald, Clark, SD and one brother, Jack (Janet) Stuchl, Aberdeen, SD; brother and sister in-laws, Irita Hubbard, Bonnie and Del Petzold, Ardis Hardie, Mary Lou and Phil Schwartz, Madonna and Roger Docken, Joe and Kathy Cleberg and Tony and Brenda Cleberg; 120+ nieces and nephews and many friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband Pat, her parents and sister Sandy and several legendary brother and sister in-laws.
