Joyce Mary Stieha was born May 25, 1941 in Britton, South Dakota to Joseph Emil and Gladys Irene (Jackson) Stieha. She grew up as the youngest child on the family farm and attended grade school in Britton, Marshall County, South Dakota. In 1957, when her parents retired, the family moved to Rapid City so that Joyce could attend a school and get additional help with her speech. They returned to Britton in 1967.
Joyce loved visiting with people. In her younger days she sang in the church choir at the United Methodist Church and attended Bible Study. She loved the family cottage at Clear Lake and would swim with her nieces and nephews. She and her mother (Nonnie) would daily go to Lake City in the summer to get the mail and go for coffee at Red Iron or Clear Lake Resort. She enjoyed playing cards with family, especially pinochle. After her parents passed away she and Bob enjoyed travels and many trips to Rapid City for little gambling adventures, a big win would be $2.00. Joyce had a few pets that she loved dearly, a bird named Tweety, their cat Jinx and dog, Lady. Joyce moved into the Bristol Assisted Living in September of 2010 after her brother Bob passed away. In March of 2011 she moved back to Britton and enjoyed many years at the Spruce Court Assisted Living. Aunt Joyce enjoyed trips to Aberdeen, shopping and lunch out. She enjoyed talking on the phone, singing and Elvis Presley music. She will be remembered for the fun jewelry she wore, her love for Werther candies and mints. In February of 2024 she moved to the nursing home after a fall. Aunt Joyce loved the Lord and was ready to go “home”.
She passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton at the age of 83 Joyce is survived by her sister in law Rose Stieha of Carson City, NV: nieces and nephews: Becke HIcks, LeeAnn Stieha, Laurie (Steve) Klefstad, John (Vicki) Stieha, Todd (Patti) Stieha, Kenneth Stieha, Pam Kandt, Beth (Kent) Didreckson, Hal (Kathy) Atkinson and many great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Don, Bob, Ken and her sister Carol, her nephew Don “Bud” Stieha, Dennis Kandt (nephew in law) and niece Dawn Skog.
