B-H NETTERS OFF TO 2-0 START
Britton-Hecla’s Maddi Micko powered this spike past a Tiospa Zina defender during the Lady Braves sweep in their home opener. Micko was 20-20 at the net with six kills.

    The Britton-Hecla volleyball squad opened its season in dominant fashion with a pair of three-game sweeps, stopping Tiospa Zina in its home opener on Thursday 25-10, 25-5, 25-16 and topping Leola-Frederick last week Tuesday 25-18, 25-9, 25-14.
    Coach Jenna Peters’ club was back in action against Tri-State last night Tuesday and plays at Webster Area on Thursday.
    “We played well against both of those teams,” said Peters.  “We have tougher competition coming up at the end of this week and next week so we are working on strengthening our defense.  We have a great group of girls on the team right now that take direction well and want to win, so I’m excited to see what the next couple of weeks bring.”

Tiopsa Zina 10-5-16
    Britton-Hecla dominated at the net and the service line in earning the sweep over Tisopa Zina, pounding out 25 kills and posting 19 aces.
    The Lady Braves never trailed in the first two sets.  In set one Abby Lee put down a pair of kills and Maddi Micko and Karlie Zuehlke pounded kills to forge an 8-4 lead.  Then Airiana Buer served 11 straight points, including five aces, to put B-H in charge 20-4.
    In set two the Lady Braves started fast again, jumping jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind three Jaelee Grupe aces.  Then Daynika Zuehlke served 10 straight with three aces and Abby Lee pounded three kills as B-H grabbed a 16-1 lead and cruised to another win.
    The visitors took their only lead of the match 4-0 in set three, but Daynika Zuehlke brought the Lady Braves right back with six straight service points with a pair of aces for a 7-4 lead and the local netters didn’t trail again.  Maddi Micko came up with three kills and a block to lead a 6-3 run and B-H was not seriously7 challenged the rest of the way asd Karlie Zuehlke had four kills down the stretch.
    Buer led the Lady Braves at the service line, hitting 22-24 with six aces.  Karlie Zuehlke was a force at the net, hitting 16-16 with nine kills, and Micko added 20-20 with six kills.

    After a tight opening set the Lady Braves took charge the rest of the way.
    B-H had a strong night at the net with 36 kills, led by Jaelee Grupe hitting 13-15 with nine kills.  Chellon Robinson, Abby Lee, and Daynika Zuehlke all contributed six kills.
    Karlie Zuehlke led the way at the service line with five aces on 10-11 tries and Daynika Zuehlke came up  with 11 digs.
