Commission Hears Drainage Question

The Marshall County Commission met on Tuesday. During the public comment portion, Brad Abel, with Ellingson Drainage, and John and Chris Eye of White Township asked the board about the drainage permitting process. They were interested in expediting the time table for permitting, which involves a publication plus a waiting period. The commission noted that they cannot make decisions during public comment periods and will have to handle the permit question as an agenda item at the next meeting.
Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland updated the board on various projects. The County Road 16 from Hwy 27 to Eden chip seal project will begin next week. County Road 12 work near Amherst will begin in June or July. Hofland added that the Hillhead Road is still posted for weight limits due to break up. The Highway Department is still advertising for employees.
The county polling place resolution was okayed. Voting in Lake City will move to the new Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall and Langford voting will move to the Legion Hall.
In other business, the board approved a $5000 budget supplement for the Register of Deeds to digitally scan documents. They also approved paying the outgoing Director of Equalization $27/hour to train the new director. The purchase of an A/C unit for $3,901 from Mike’s Plumbing and Heating was approved for the Community Building.
In zoning matters, a drainage permit was approved for Samson Farm, Eden Township, effective June 4. A plat was approved for Gangle’s Subdivision, Lake Township (Roy Lake). Building permits were accepted for Troy Person, Lake Township.
