The funeral service for Darrell Wallace will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at United Methodist Church in Britton. Rev. Rodney Ulmer will officiate and a spring burial will be at the Britton Cemetery under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel.
One hour visitation prior to the service at the church.
Darrell Eugene Wallace was born July 27, 1932 in Britton, SD to Henry and Grace (Merriman) Wallace. He attended country school and graduated from Britton High School in 1950.
On July 27, 1952 he married Vergie Wampler. They made their home in Britton and Darrell worked for Bush Angus and Thorp Hereford Farms before moving to Mina, SD to work for Mrs. Rudolph, who had registered sheep and cattle.
In 1960 they moved back to the Britton area and he worked for Dalton Docter. After a couple years he started farming on his own on Percy Wallace’s farm, where they lived until he moved into Wheatcrest Hills Nursing Home in 2018.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Britton and was active throughout the church. He also served on the school board and the Cenex board. Over the years he drove school bus for Britton. Darrell liked music and sang in the church choir. He liked to read, play cards, attend high school sports and activities, to travel and the occasional game of golf.
Darrell passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at Wheatcrest Hills, at the age of 90.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vergie; his children: Debra (Dale) Normandin, Boyd (Sara) Wallace, Pamela Wallace, and Barbara (Mark) Waeltz; 13 grandchildren: Nate Normandin, Bridgette Evermann, Brett (Jessica Schwartz) Normandin, Nicole (Ben) McIntosh, Lisa Wallace, Kala Wallace, Kyra Wallace, Rebecca Mamrol, Peter Mamrol, Brian (Rebekah) Wallace, Shelly Waeltz, Melissa Waeltz, and Jennifer Waeltz; 7 great-grandchildren: Thomas (Hailey) McIntosh, Treyson Strunk, Xander Lawrence, Rand Wallace, Landyn Waeltz, Lucas Waeltz, and Rory Waeltz; 1 great-great grandchild: Sully McIntosh; his brother, Don (Shirley) Wallace; sisters-inlaw, Deanna Muth and Carrie Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Henry and Grace; siblings: Wilford, Robert, Maxine, and Shirley; son-in-law, Andrew Mamrol; and grandson-in-law, Noah Evermann.
