The Stage Is Set For LA, B-H Plays

The Stage Is Set For LA, B-H Plays

Both Langford Area and Britton-Hecla’s drama departments are gearing up for their big spring theatrical productions.
Langford Area will perform “Emma: A Pop Musical” April 10-12. Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel “Emma,” this fun musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers -- with favorites like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “How Will I Know,” “Brave,” and “Roar.” The story revolves around Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, who is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives and is determined to find the perfect boyfriend for shy sophomore Harriet by the end of the school year. But will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? Girl power has never sounded so good!
The play is directed by Diane Hoines with assistants Holly Glodrey, JaKelle Hardy, Suzi Larson and Kelly Wieser. There will be a matinee of “Emma: A Pop Musical” at 1:30 p.m. on April 10 and nightly performances at 7:00 p.m. the 11th and 12th. Adults cost $7 and students $5.
Britton-Hecla is prepping the stage for “George Washington Slept Here” with performances April 11 and 12. The story chronicles the trials and tribulations of Newton Fuller and his attempt to fulfil a lifetime ambition: to own his very own colonial farmhouse – a home in the country. He drags his family out to their own personal “Green Acres” to set up home in a wreck of a house – broken windows, falling plaster, and a cow in the kitchen. But, Newton has hope – after all, George Washington slept there (or so he thinks), so it’s even a part of history. With a little bit of faith and a lot of guts, maybe they can make this house into a home. Will they flip the house or just flip out?
“George Washington Slept Here” is directed by Holli Medhaug and Jennifer Boyko with Chuck Vrchota as Technical Director. B-H will perform the play at 7 p.m. April 11 and 12. There will also be a matinee on the 12th at 1:15pm. A free will donation will be collected at the door.
