Republican Challengers On Top In Primary

Marshall County Republican voters decided to move on from the incumbent in the District 1 House of Representatives race.  Challengers Logan Manhart of Aberdeen and Christopher Reder of Warner came out ahead of Tamara St. John, the incumbent from Sisseton in Tuesday’s primary. It was a very tight race, with Manhart taking 34% of the vote, Reder 33% and St. John 31%

County-wide, Manhart racked up 171 votes, Reder 166 and St. John 152. See the table on page 11 for the county-wide breakdown of votes by precinct.

As of 9:30 Tuesday evening, Manhart and Reder were also leading St. John district-wide with the majority of precincts reporting. The top two vote-getters will move on to the general election on November 5, competing against Democrats Steve McCleerey and Dana Pulfrey.

Democrats and Independents also went to the polls Tuesday for the Democratic presidential primary. Incumbent Joe Biden came out on top with 71% of the vote, earning 97 votes. Other candidates were Marianne Williamson, earning 10% and 14 votes, Armando Perez-Serrato took 4% of the vote with 6 votes and Dean Phillips had 14% with 19 votes.

Voter turnout was 16.07% countywide with 444 ballots cast out of 2,762 registered voters.

All election results are considered ‘unofficial’ until results are certified.
