Carter Nelson, who will be an eighth grader at Britton-Hecla this fall, has qualified for the Region 8 United States Track and Field (USATF) event to be held in Aberdeen July 5-7.
The top eight placers at the Dakotas USATF meet held in Aberdeen on Saturday advanced to regional competition, and Nelson placed second in all three events in which he competed. He came up with personal bests in the shot put (31-8) and javelin (70-8) and threw the discus 80-8 for his three second place finishes.
Region 8 includes South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Those placing among the top five in the regional will qualify for the National Junior Olympic Championships at Texas A&M University July 2230.
