BRIGHT FUTURES FOR B-H & LA VOLLEYBALL

B-H Takes Step Forward

The Britton-Hecla volleyball team took a big step forward this past season, posting a 14-12 record that marked a six-win increase over last year’s mark of 8-16.
    “I’m really proud of my girls this year,” said B-H coach Jenna Peters.  “They gave it their all.  We are going to be sad to see our seniors go, but they had a great season.”
    Graduating from this year’s team area Heather Storbakken, Annika Tank, McKenna Heer, Sterling Brassfield, and Mallory Grupe.
    Junior Abby Lee led the Lady Braves at the net this season, pounding 192 kills and posting a team-best kill percentage of 35.4%.  Freshman Jaelee Grupe had 155 kills with a 31.8 kill percentage, Heer had 149 kills and a 29.2 kill percentage, and junior Karlie Zuehlke hit 122 kills at a 26.2% clip.
    Lee also led B-H with 57 total blocked shots.  K. Zuehlke had 33, J. Grupe 28, and M. Grupe 20, 
    In the serving department Storbakken led the way, hitting 93.7% of her tries and posting 49 aces.  Grupe and Heer both had 33 aces, sophomore Daynika Zuehlke 23, and Brassfield 18.  Maddi Micko had the second best serving percentage at 92.8%, K. Zuehlke 90.8%, and D. Zuehlke 89%.
    D. Zuehlke was the leader in digs with 456.  Grupe came up with 196, Storbakken 162, Tank 147, Ava Teveldal 96, Heer 88, , K. Zuehlke 73, and Brassfield 68.
 

LA Excited For Future

    Langford Area’s volleyball squad faced some growing pains this past season with just one senior on the roster, but Coach Susan Larson’s squad managed to be very competitive and posted a 9-20 record.
    Eliana Darling is the only player that will be lost to graduation.
    “One of the things I really appreciated about our team this season was their effort and mindset,” said Larson.  “They improved a lot over the season, and they were fun to coach and fun to watch.  I’m proud of this team and the season they had.
    “We’re going to miss Eliana, but it’s exciting to think that most of the starters will be returning next year,” added Larson.  “It’s fun to think about what their season will look like if they continue to work hard, improve, and grow.”
    Eliana Darling was a force at the net, hitting 94% of her spike attempts (324-344) and 41% of those (133) went for kills.  Sophomore Emily Olson was second in the kill department with 83, sophomore Lizzie Gustafson had 82, and sophomore Autumn Wegleitner 74.  Junior Mariah Tosse was second in spike percentage at 89, Gustafson 88, Marlow 87, and Wegleitner 85.
    E. Darling also led the Lady Lions at the service line, serving 42 aces and hitting 91% of her service attempts.  Marlow and sophomore Alex Darling both had 29 aces and were successful on 93% of their tries.  Junior Clarissa Guy added 23 aces, Wegleitner 21, Gustafson 17, and Olson 13.  Gustafson and sophomore Brynn Samson were the top percentages services at 94%.
    Marlow and E. Darling led the squad in serve receive at 95%.  Guy and A. Darling had successful passes on 93% of their serve receives, and Gustafson had a 91% success rate.
    Marlow was successful on 1,009-1024 setting attempts and was credited with 222 assists to lead the way in that category.  Guy was 711-742 with 163 assists.
    Leading the team in digs was A. Darling with 379 and E. Darling was right behind with 312.  Marlow added 262, Guy 153, Samson 134, Gustafson 129, and Olson 119.
