Langford Area’s girls basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat Wilmot 49-43 on Friday.
The win boosted Coach Michael Alberts’ squad to a 2-3 season mark.  The Lady Lions have a break until Jan. 10 when they take on Herreid-Selby at Herreid in a twin bill with the boys’ squad on Jan. 10.
“Both teams went into this game not having practiced in at least four days because of the winter moratorium, and it was a sluggish start for us,” said Alberts.  “Once we got settled in, we did some really good things.
“We played pretty good team defense on a really good player in Addison Heinje. We didn’t want her to get anything easy and I thought our girls did a good job of that. Offensively, we are doing a really good job of getting good shots, but we still need to knock a few more down. We also did a good job crashing the offensive boards to get some easy buckets. Our girls continue to work hard and keep getting better.”
LA was down 13-8 after the opening period but outscored the Wolves 16-8 in the second quarter to grab a 24-21 halftime advantage.  Wilmot went back up by four with a quarter to play but Alberts’ crew outscored the hosts 20-10 over the final eight minutes.
Paytyn Marlow led LA with 18 points and Alex Darling added 12.  The Lady Lions were just 16-34 at the charity stripe but attempted 22 more free tosses as Wilmot committed 27 fouls in the contest compared  to LA’s 11.
