LEADS SLIP AWAY FOR GIRLS

Britton-Hecla’s RaeAnn Hagenson was fouled on this shot attempt in recent basketball play. Hagenson scored a season-high 11 points against Deuel on Friday.

The Britton-Hecla girls basketball team held a pair of halftime leads but came out on the short end of three contests during the past week.
Coach Terry Nelson’s club took a 1-5 record into a game with Milbank last night Tuesday.  This week the Lady Braves travel to Redfield on Thursday, host Great Plains Lutheran on Friday (JV games 5 p.m., varsity girls, varsity boys to follow), and play at Wilmot on Tuesday with all the contests being twin bills with the boys’ squad.
B-H held an 11-point halftime lead against Tri-State before dropping a 56-51 decision on Saturday, led by seven at the half against Deuel on Friday before losing 53-45, and was a victim of an ice-cold shooting night in a 46-13 loss at Florence-Henry last week Monday.
“All the teams we have played so far have a winning record and the competition is only going to get better,” said Nelson.  “But we are slowly getting better.  The girls are hustling and are aggressive, and our outside shooting is improving.  And the good attitude is there, so that’s the best thing.”
Nelson was without the services of Chellon Pruitt due to the state Snow Queen contest last weekend and will be missing Koryn Jones for the next two weeks with a back injury.
