B-H COACH GETS 400TH VICTORY

Facing Seven Straight On Road

Britton-Hecla picked up its second win of the season over Redfield on Thursday, giving Coach Terry Nelson his 400th career victory while coaching boys and girls basketball over the past 28 seasons at Britton-Hecla, Hecla, Frederick-Hecla, Cheyenne Eagle Butte, and Deubrook.
The Lady Braves downed Redfield 36-26, dropped decisions to Milbank 61-23 and Great Plains Lutheran 49-20 in the past week, and stood at 2-7 heading into a contest with Wilmot last night Tuesday that kicked off a stretch of seven straight road games.
B-H took a hit this past week when freshman Koryn Jones was diagnosed with a cracked vertebrate and will miss the rest of the season.
This week Nelson’s crew meets Waubay-Summit at Summit on Monday in a twin bill with the boys’ squad.
Nelson’s goal is for his club to just keep showing improvement throughout the season.
“Wilmot, Waubay-Summit, and Warner (Jan. 24) are three teams we should be able to compete against,” noted Nelson.  “It’s a matter of putting four quarters together, and we haven’t done that.  We just want to get better by regional tournament time.”

Despite going scoreless in the third period, Britton-Hecla used a 15-point halftime cushion to come out on top at Redfield.
“Our defense was real good the whole game, but we couldn’t do anything on offense the second half,” said Nelson.  “Maddi Micko picked up a charging foul on what would have probably been a Redfield basket at the two-minute mark that really helped us, and we were able to do the things at crunch time that we hadn’t done in previous games to get the win.”
Chellon Pruitt scored a season-high 12 points and Heather Storbakken added 10 for the Lady Braves.  Karlie Zuehlke and RaeAnn Hagenson both pulled down seven rebounds, Storbakken had four assists, and Daynika Zuehlke came up with four steals.
