Britton-Hecla trailed by just two points at halftime but Wilmot went on a 35-10 tear in the second half to put the game away last week Tuesday in girls basketball action.
The Lady Braves were scheduled to play at Waubay-Summit on Monday but that game was postponed due to cold weather conditions. This week Coach Terry Nelson’s club, now 2-8, plays at Warner on Friday and takes on Leola-Frederick at Frederick on Tuesday, both twin bills with the boys..
Britton-Hecla trailed 15-6 after one period but outscored the hosts 18-11 in the second stanza to cut the deficit to 26-24 at halftime. Wilmot answered with a 22-point third quarter to take charge.
The Lady Braves could not find an answer for Wilmot’s Addison Heinje who pumped in 39 points. Heinje is just a sophomore and has already reached the 1,000-point mark in her prep career. Daynika Zuehle led B-H with nine points and five assists and Chellon Pruitt added eight points and 11 rebounds. Karlie Zuehlke came up with four steals.
“Heinje has averaged 31 points against us the last two years,” said Nelson. “At 5-10 she’s a great defender and knows how to anticipate. A lot of her points came on steals and layups. We just have to know who the scorers are and get after them and be able to switch and help out. Offensively, we have to quit rushing shots when we don’t have to.”
