The Britton-Hecla wrestling squad wrapped up its regular season with a pair of dual victories at Warner on Friday and placed four matmen in a tournament at Redfield on Saturday.
Coach Josh Hawkinson’s squad will compete in the Region 1A tournament at Hamlin on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The Braves steamrolled past Warner-Northwestern 66-0 and edged Potter County 36-33 at Warner to end the year with a 5-4 dual record.
Individuals earning places at Redfield were Jerrik Jones (3-1), second, 106B; Bryce Hawkinson (27-3), third, 144; Ben Suther (33-13), third, 175; and Tucker Hardy (31-11), sixth, 215.
“We knew going in that Redfield was going to be a tough tournament with ranked guys in just about every weight class,” said Hawkinson. “Overall, I felt we did well coming out the way we did. I’m comfortable with where we’re at. We’ll send the time before the regional studying video of guys we will probably meet and try to figure out some ways to get past them.”
The Braves will have seven wrestlers competing in the region tourney. Five other local matmen will compete in the middle school state tournament on Sunday in Pierre and will not be eligible for the regional meet. They include Jerrik Jones, Henry Kilker, Camden Tomlinson, Liam Paxton, and Max Suther.
