At Monday’s Langford Area Board of Education meeting, Marshall County Sheriff Swanson spoke about the School Resource Deputy program, which recently launched in the Britton-Hecla School District. Swanson expressed interest in expanding the program to Langford, proposing that deputies spend one hour per day in the school to build relationships with students. Superintendent Shad Storley voiced strong support for the idea, emphasizing the district’s commitment to fostering positive connections between law enforcement and youth. Implementing the program would require a formal contract, and Swanson encouraged the board to consult with school counsel before revisiting the discussion at their next meeting.
The board also reviewed information about the upcoming opt-out vote, scheduled for March 25. A final public meeting to discuss the issue will be held next Thursday at 6 p.m. at the school in Langford.
Additionally, the board approved a contract with Tailfeather Photography of Webster for school pictures.
In his administration report, Storley provided an update on the district’s recent in-service day, where newly hired principal Abby Kwasniewski was in attendance and had the opportunity to introduce herself to staff.
There will be no school on Thurs as staff and faculty travel to Pierre for Stand With Public Education Day. The day will serve as an in-service for educators to advocate for public schools at the state level.
