On Tuesday, Marshall County voters will go to the polls to decide whether to adopt a $5 million bond for renovations to the courthouse plus the addition of a law enforcement center. 

This weekend will be full of Harvest Days fun in Britton and good times will no doubt be had by all. However, one event may be a little bittersweet for some- the family and many friends of Joe Lang. This year’s Harvest Days theme “Backyard BBQ in Memory of Joe Lang” is dedicated to that very man. Ahead of the festival, it is worthwhile to take some time to appreciate Joe’s contributions to the event.

The Britton U16 baseball team came within one game of earning a berth in the state tournament last week.

The Britton Swim Team scored 449 points to take third place in the Summer Team Swim Championship held in Chamberlain Friday through Sunday.

The funeral service for Kenton “Kent” Mueller will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate the service. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

The funeral service for Vivian Scott was 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at First Lutheran Church of Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen officiated the service. Burial was at the Britton Cemetery.

Dody Anenson, 83, passed away on July 17, 2023. She was born July 9, 1940, in Veblen, South Dakota to the late Leonard and Viola Lahammer. She grew up on a small farm, the fifth of six children. She graduated in 1958 as the Salutatorian (and Homecoming Queen) of Veblen High School. She subsequently graduated, summa cum laude, from Northern State University in 1962 with a double major in math and physical education.

The celebration of life for Kenneth “Kenny” Watkins was at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Marshall County VFW Post #3507 at 718 Main St. in Britton, SD.

The memorial mass for Judith “Judy” Olson will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Veblen. Fr. Greg Frankman will officiate the mass.

Tru and Tuf Hagen are true cowboys and look to be shaping up into great cattlemen. The brothers from rural Lake City are both members of the South Dakota Junior Hereford Association. They recently had a big adventure when they traveled to Madison, Wisconsin July 8th through the 14th for the Junior National Show.

The Claremont baseball program has a rich and storied history, but a new chapter was added a couple of weeks ago when a very special game was played on the Honkers’ field.
