Lyle William Hair, 87, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, in Wichita, KS. He was born March 31, 1935, in Britton, SD to Lyle Wilbert Hair and Dorothy Eva (Schulenburg) Hair. Lyle married Patricia Chard in Lincoln, KS on June 17, 1956. After a twenty-year distinguished career in the United States Air Force, having served overseas in the Vietnam War and earning the distinguished Flying Cross, Lyle retired from military service to become a barber serving the Lincoln community. He was a member of the Lincoln VFW Post 7928, the Lincoln Community Church, and the NRA.

Ten Britton youth wrestlers finished among the top three in regional competition last weekend to advance to the state meet set for Aberdeen on March 24-26.

Jennifer Carlson is not going to let her students take the easy way out. After 21 years of teaching, she’s used to challenging her students. “As soon as I lower my expectations for them, I’ve made it ok to not do their best,” Carlson emphasized. It is because of that attitude and the positive results she gets in her classroom that Carlson was recently named as Britton-Hecla’s Teacher of the Year.

Langford Area School District principal Mary Hosford and special education teacher Basil Knebel have been nominated for the 202223 National LifeChanger of the Year award. Multiple agencies responded to an accident eight miles east of Britton around 9:05 a.m. on Highway 10 Tuesday morning. According to Tony Mangan, spokesman for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the accident involved two vehicles, a pickup and a car. The pickup was driving eastbound on Highway 10 when it entered the westbound lane and collided head-on with the car.

The Langford Area boys basketball team took a big body blow in the opening period, hung tough with a strong Northwestern ballclub in the second quarter, but then was overpowered in the second half as the Wildcats posted a 78-38 win in a Region 1B quarterfinal game last week Tuesday.

Top-seeded Aberdeen Christian jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 5517 win over Britton-Hecla in Region 1B boys’ basketball tournament action last week Tuesday at the Aberdeen Civic Arena.

The funeral service for Donald “Donnie” Sjomeling will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate the service. Burial will take place in the spring.

The funeral for Leah Luitjens will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Britton. Dr. Lance Griese will officiate. Spring interment will be in the Britton Cemetery under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
