Funeral services will be 11:30 am Friday, October 4, 2024, at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 10 am and continue until the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the lower level of the funeral home. The funeral procession will leave Fiksdals at 2 pm for interment at the Britton Cemetery, near Britton.

Melvin Lee Bergman was born May 5, 1958, to Ken and Gin Bergman in Buffalo, MN. He lived in Becker, MN until the age of 12 when they moved to Roslyn, SD. He attended Roslyn High School, graduating in 1976. After graduation, he moved to Phoenix, AZ and then moved back to Roslyn, where he met the love of his life, Laurie Jorgenson. They were married the following spring and to this union, they had two daughters, Angie & Erin. In 1980, Melvin and Laurie moved their family to Houston, TX where he started his trucking career. In winter of 1982, they moved back to SD and Melvin began driving truck for Jensen Feed and Grain. In 1986, he bought his own farmstead to raise his family. In 1989, Melvin quit driving truck to start his own dairy farm. He ran stock cows and sheep andhelped run his dad’s farm. He also worked part-time hauling propane in the winter and later he worked driving grain truck for the Roslyn Elevator.

Melvin was a very caring person who took care of his father when he was diagnosed with cancer, then his mother when she developed Alzheimer’s Disease and his brother, Larry, when he was diagnosed with dementia. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was the most loyal friend.

Melvin’s favorite place on the farm was his shop, where he could build and fix anything. He could improvise and make all sorts of unique creations out of whatever he had on hand. He was very proud of his chandelier made from a milking unit! He loved to travel with his wife in their camper. They planned on traveling and sightseeing all over the U.S. and spending the winter in Texas. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Melvin will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Laurie; daughters Angie (James) Schiltz and Erin (Mike) Fildes; grandchildren Julia, Ava, Amelia & Asher Schiltz; Cole, Rhys & Wade Fildes; great grandson, Orion Schiltz; his brother, Ron; and his many nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Gin; his brother, Larry; and his mother and father-in-law, Winky and Marcy Jorgenson.
