Anna Jean (Hanson) Foote was born July 23, 1929 to Knute and Marie “Mary” (Hoines) Hanson. She was raised on the Hanson family farm and attended the Independence Township country school, both of rural Day County. When Anna Jean was two years old her father passed away and she was raised by her mother. She was baptized and confirmed at Falnes Lutheran Church. For a number of years she worked at the restaurant in Langford.

On March 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Ralph C. Foote at her mother’s home in Langford. They lived in rural Langford where they raised their five children – Reta, Verna, Neil, Ward and Wayne. She helped on the farm, whether it was driving grain truck, silage truck or milking cows. Anna Jean and Ralph were married for 69 years before his passing in January 2018. She continued to live at their home until moving to Spruce Court Assisted Living and then later to Wheatcrest Hills Nursing Home, both in Britton.

Anna Jean was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford and participated in the circle group throughout the years. She cherished spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially lefsa, buns, kringle, kumla and lutefisk. In her free time she played cards and watched the Minnesota Twins. Her faith was strong and she often took time to read her Bible and attend church activities. She hosted many family gatherings and holidays where she made delicious homemade meals. In their later years she and Ralph took many trips traveling to various places.

Anna Jean passed away Friday, October 25, 2024 at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton, at the age of 95.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Reta Thovson of Hill City, SD; Neil (Shannon) Foote of Langford; Ward Foote of Langford; and Wayne (Mavis Ochsner) Foote of Britton; nine grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; son-in-law, Jim Ellenson of Redfield, SD; two sisters-in-law: Lucille Green of Sioux Falls and Dorthy (Gerald) Schneider of Britton; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ralph; her daughter, Verna Ellenson; son-in-law, Larry Thovson; grandson, Roger Ringer; grandson-in-law, Jason Schumacher; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Tomsha; and her siblings: Harry, Erwin, Kenneth, Leonard, Claire, Carl, Serine and Esther.
