JOANNE L. JUNKANS

Joanne L. Junkans, age 94 of Woodbury, MN died peacefully with her children by her side on February 20, 2025 in Shoreview, MN after a brief illness. Joanne was born October 25, 1930 in Britton, South Dakota to Russell and Lottie (Jackson) Koeppen. She grew up in Amherst, South Dakota and was baptized in the Weston Reformed Church. The family laterjoinedtheFirstPresbyterian Church in Britton. Joanne fondly remembered their horses, Bill & Doll and Shetland pony, Trixie. She enjoyed Zane Grey books and John Wayne movies. Joanne graduated from Weston Consolidated High School in Amherst, South Dakota in 1948. After high school she moved to St Paul, MN and attended Lee’s Hairdressing School. She graduated from there in 1949. Joanne also worked at Montgomery Ward in St Paul. During this time she would take the trolley to get around St Paul and the train home to Amherst. In 1953 Joanne married and moved to Clear Lake, WI. She had 2 children, Susan and Paul. They attended Moe Lutheran Church where Joanne served on the Ladies Aid. Later they attended the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake. Joanne later divorced. In 1982 she earned her Nurse’s Aid Certificate from WisconsinIndianheadTechnical Institute in New Richmond, WI. Joanne moved away from Clear Lake and eventually settled in St Paul, MN with her daughter, Susan. She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Maplewood Care Center in Maplewood, MN. Joanne enjoyed watching British mysteries and veterinarian TV shows. Her pumpkin bars and 7-Up salad were a family favorite. She loved seeing her son’s dogs, Whiskers & Bandit. Joanne’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to birthday & holiday celebrations with family.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, Russell & Lottie Koeppen; brother, Neil Koeppen and daughter-in-law, Karen Junkans (Karjalainen). She is survived by her daughter, Susan Junkans, of Woodbury, MN, son, Paul Junkans, of Oakdale, MN; grandchildren, Lauren (Joe) Dornan, of Roseville, MN and Daniel L. Junkans, of Oakdale, MN; great-granddaughters: Róisín & Aoife Dornan Funeral Services Saturday, May 31, 2025, 11am at Moe Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, WI. Visitation one hour prior. Interment at Moe Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Margaret Grant will officiate.

The family wants to thank the staff at Regions Hospital, St Croix Hospice and St Therese at St Odilia residential hospice for their care and support during this time.
