Wilmot Ends Lions’ Cage Season In 1B Play-In Tilt

Wilmot ended the Langford Area boys’ basketball season 51-22 on Monday in the Region 1B play-in contest.

The Lions finished with an 0-21 season mark. Wilmot, now 6-15, met top-seeded Leola-Frederick (19-1) in regional quarterfinal play last night Tuesday with the winner advancing to the semifinals on Friday and SoDak 16 matchups on Tuesday.

Langford Area got off to a slow start against Wilmot and was not able to dig out of that hole. The hosts led 19-3 at the first quarter break and boosted that to 37-9 at halftime.

Jacob Samson led the Lions with nine points. Dylan Harmon pulled down six rebounds and Ryder Smith and Ethen Olson grabbed five each. Rennan Bruns had a pair of assists and Kalen Godel and Conner Glines each had two steals.

“It was a tough way to end the season,” said LA boss Brian Schuring. “We had a rough start to the game and found ourselves with a big deficit. The boys, like they have all year fought hard, however it was too much to overcome. Proud of this team and the way they showed up every day for practice and games. Their dedication to the program was so inspiring and their commitment to our team was unbelievable.”

The Lions will lose just one player via graduation this spring. Kalen Godel was the only senior on the roster.
